One story can make someone feel less alone.

Your experience matters

There is no perfect
recovery story.

Recovery Spotlight is a series of short videos from 217 Recovery featuring people from our community talking about their recovery in their own words. Each one is filmed in our Traverse City studio and edited into a three- to five-minute story we can share with people who need to hear it.

We're not looking for perfect people or perfect stories. We're looking for real people whose experiences can help someone else.

Come as you are

You don't need

A certain amount of time in recovery. A particular recovery pathway. Experience speaking in public or on camera. A dramatic story.

All pathways welcome

You do need

To be 18 or older and interested in sharing some part of your recovery experience. Twelve-step, medication, faith-based, secular, and other pathways are all welcome.

Apply to participate

Start with a conversation.

Our application takes about 10–15 minutes. A few sentences per question is plenty, and you may skip questions you'd rather not answer. Applying doesn't commit you to anything.

At your pace

What happens next?

A conversation first.
A camera only when you're ready.

  1. Send your application

Complete the online application, or email the downloaded PDF to info@217recovery.com.

  2. Have a relaxed conversation

Our team plans to contact you within a week to arrange a 10–15 minute conversation by phone, video, or in person. It's not a test.

  3. Decide together

If you and the team decide to move ahead, we'll talk about filming, boundaries, and a separate video release.

  4. See your story first

You'll have an opportunity to watch your edited video before anyone else does.
